Speaking during the workshop, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Gombe State, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, reaffirmed INEC’s strategic focus on human capital development as a core pillar for credible and transparent election administration.
He said, “this is not just an administrative formality, but a deliberate and indispensable investment in the integrity of our electoral process and the vibrancy of our democracy”.
Themed “Capacity Building: A Tool for Successful Election Administration,” the session featured presentation on the challenges, opportunities, and strategies in election management. The REC reiterated that equipping staff with the right knowledge and skills is essential for navigating emerging technologies, evolving legal frameworks, and the complex dynamics of Nigeria’s electoral environment.

According to Dr. Idris, the thursday’s workshop marks the first in a series training and capacity building that will be expanded to include field officers, security agencies, and other critical stakeholders in the electoral process.
He stressed that sustained capacity development is non-negotiable if INEC is to maintain public trust, improve service delivery, and uphold its mandate of conducting free, fair, and credible elections.
Also speaking at the workshop, the Head of Voter Registration/ICT, Engr. Bitson Filibus, provided technical briefings on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process, highlighting the role of digital innovation in voter data management.
