Gombe: Police arrest 2 for illegal firearm possession

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm, following a routine patrol operation in the state capital.

The suspects, identified as Samuel Stephen Sunday, 22, of Layin Hashido Quarters, and Enosh Seth Yakubu, 24, of Water Board Quarters, were apprehended on April 7, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m. around Orji Quarters, near Jiyamere Hotel.

According to the Command, operatives attached to Operation Hattara intercepted the duo after observing suspicious movements in the area. During preliminary questioning, one of the suspects reportedly attempted to dispose of an object, which was promptly recovered by the officers.

The item was identified as an FIE Corp Miami pistol bearing breach number D847339, loaded with one round of 9mm live ammunition.

Police said the suspects are currently in custody, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been secured as exhibits. Ongoing investigations are aimed at determining the source of the weapon and establishing any links to criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Ahmed Chuso, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, noting that their timely intervention averted a potential security threat.

The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.

Police authorities assured that further updates would be communicated as the investigations progress.
