The decision, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Friday amid growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the area. The Governor described the outbreak of violence as “unacceptable” and directed security agencies to move swiftly to restore order.

“Government views these disturbances as unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly,” Gov. Fintiri declared in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

The Governor warned that anyone caught violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the state.

Residents of Lamurde are urged to comply fully with the curfew directive and assist security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid peacekeeping efforts.

Governor Fintiri also cautioned against rumour-mongering, which he noted could escalate tensions, and appealed to all stakeholders in the area to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.

“The Government will not condone acts of violence and will take all necessary measures to restore peace and order. We are committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen,” he added.

The curfew will remain in place until further notice.

Lamurde, located in the southern part of Adamawa State, has in the early month of July, witnessed spate of violence with scores feared death, with properties worth millions destroyed and several injured, leading to rising tensions in the area and huge fears of a wider conflict if not quickly contained. Security operatives have since been deployed to strategic locations in the area to enforce the directive and prevent further escalation.
