Gov. Idris tasks youths on skills acquisition

The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has tasked youths in the state to embrace skills acquisition to become self-sufficient and employers of labour. 

He gave the task at the Kebbi State Youth Cultural Event 2025 held at Umaru Waziri Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

The programme was organised by the Kebbi State Government through Kebbi State Youth Development Association (KYDA), Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).

The theme of the programme is: “Let’s Unite and Showcase our Tradition”.

Idris, who was represented by the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Faruk Abdullahi Muslim, said the call because imperative in view of the fact that skills acquisition remained critical to individual and collective growth and development.

He assured the determination of the state government towards youth and women empowerment.

In her speech, the Wife of the governor and founder of Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), Hajiya Nafisa Nasir-Idris thanked the organisers for what she described as a wonderful initiative.

She assured the people of Kebbi State that her husband was always concern about how to develop people especially the youth.

While describing youth as the backbone of societal growth and development, the governor’s wife urged the youth to be pillars of peace for societal rejuvenation.

She said NANAS foundation had been supporting the youth through the training of youth and women on various skills acquisition programmes in the state.

Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, Commissioner for Information said the essence of the programme was to facilitate peace, progress and development and to further foster unity amongst the good people of Kebbi State.

He observed that cultural shows remained the best way to showcase and sustain “our beautiful and historic culture and traditions”

He cited the Argungu International Fishing Festival as one of the famous cultural festivals in the state recognised worldwide.

On his part, Mubashir Mohammed, Chairman Kebbi Youth Development Association (KYDA) lauded the state government for creating enabling environment for youth to develop and become self-sufficient.

He appreciated the Governor’s wife, Nafisa Nasir Idris for doing enough to empower the youth and urged the youth to shun all forms of social vices in all ramifications to be able to live a better life.
