Organisers of the maiden edition of Governo Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Cup, have dangled a whopping sum of N30 million price money at the 18 participating teams drawn from each Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Delta state.

They equally revealed that the tournament, aimed at foster unity among the LGAs, will kick-off on August 3, 2025, in Warri, Delta State.

In a statement issued in Abuja, they explained that the tournament will also serve as a platform to identify and nurture young football talents for local and international opportunities.

Giving breakdown of the price money, the organisers disclosed that all the participating teams will smile home with N1 million each as appearance fee, while the top cash prices is categorised as N5 million winner of the gold trophy & gold medals, the first runner-up will get N3 million as silver trophy & silver medals.

According to them, the second runner-up and fourth placed finishers will smile to the bank with N2 million bronze medals and N1 million respectively.

Sponsored by Warri-based entrepreneur and soccer enthusiast, Chief Amurun Idama, Chairman of Arthur Ferdinand Limited, the grassroots tournament will follow a round-robin format, with all the LGAs participating.

Idama, while addressing stakeholders, emphasised the tournament’s unifying goal, stressing; “The Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Cup is designed to bring together the youth of Delta through sports and provide a fertile ground for discovering future stars.”

At the tournament’s inauguration and draws held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Idama equally inaugurated a robust Local Organizing Committee (LOC) made up of 15 principal members and 16 sub-committee members to oversee the tournament’s smooth execution.

The inauguration ceremony attracted notable dignitaries including Godwin Ejiyere, Director General of the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency; past and present Delta State Football Association Chairmen; local football council chairmen; and head coaches from the participating LGAs.

In a generous move, Idama provided complete kits to all LOC members, including jerseys, face caps, and footwear, while participating teams also received full kits with various incentives and prices set aside to motivate players and officials.
