Gov Yahaya hails progress, credits past leaders for state’s growth

From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe

As Gombe State marked its 29th anniversary alongside Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has hailed the state’s steady progress while paying tribute to past leaders for laying the foundation for its growth and stability.

In a statement by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor described unity and peaceful coexistence as the bedrock of development, urging citizens to remain committed to building a prosperous future. Reflecting on the state’s journey since its creation in 1996, he noted that while Nigeria at 65, continues to grapple with economic reforms, insecurity and unity challenges, Gombe at 29, has steadily risen as a hub of development and investment in the North East. He credited the growth to the vision of founding leaders and the sustained implementation of policies, such as the 10-year development plan.

He highlighted gains in education, healthcare, road infrastructure, agriculture and industrialisation, disclosing that his administration had constructed over 900 kilometres of roads across rural and township areas, most of them fitted with solar-powered streetlights. He also pointed to the expansion of healthcare facilities and improved access to education through new classrooms and teacher recruitment.

The governor revealed that more than N25 billion had been disbursed in gratuities to retirees across the 11 local government areas, clearing arrears dating back to 2012.

He said these measures reflect a balance between addressing inherited debts and driving new development.

He said: “In less than three decades of existence, Gombe has ushered in a new dawn defined by vision, discipline and results. We remain focused on empowering youth, supporting farmers and improving the quality of life for families across the state.”

Governor Yahaya, who also chairs the Northern Governors’ Forum, prayed for peace and stability in Gombe and the nation at large. He urged citizens to celebrate both anniversaries with gratitude, while renewing their commitment to unity and prosperity.
