Hundreds of deviant youths granted amnesty in Kano

Hundreds of deviant youths in Kano State have given up their violent ways for a government supported rehabilitation and reintegration programme.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the occassion of the proposed amnesty, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf applauded the youths for their resolve to turn a new leaf while decrying the security challenges caused by their anti-social behaviours in the state

He regretted that violent clashes between rival gangs had led to avoidable deaths in the state.

Represented by the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, he explained that the non – kinetic approach will offer an olive branch to the repentant youths and empower them at the end to become self reliant.

The Governor said the Safe Corridor Initiative is independent, non political and solely designed to address the challenges of insecurity, youth- restiveness and anti social behaviour in the state,

He explained that some of the individuals earlier profiled for the programme had died and announced that the state government would conduct a fresh revalidation exercise to update its records.

The Governor remarked that prior to the offer of amnesty, the youths will be profiled and screened by relevant security agencies to ascertain their backgrounds.

In their separate remarks, both the State Commissioner of Police and Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State cautioned the repentant youths against the negative repercussions of illicit behaviours in the society.

They both urged the youths to consider the opportunity offered by the government as a privilege to build a better future for themselves in life. End.
