…As Lawmaker Visits Etsu Patigi over recent Attack
From Kenneth Udeh, Abuja
Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening grassroots security and improving community welfare through health interventions.
The lawmaker made this known on Thursday during a condolence visit to the Etsu of Patigi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Ibrahim Bologi II, following a recent security incident that claimed the lives of several members of the local vigilante group.
Accompanied by his aides, Senator Sadiq also visited the residence of the Head of Vigilante Groups in Patigi to commiserate with bereaved families and the community.
He described the fallen vigilantes as “brave heroes who paid the ultimate price to keep their people safe.”
He commended the swift and coordinated response of the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, working in synergy with the Federal Government, which he said helped restore calm in the area.
“In rural and semi-urban areas like ours, local vigilantes remain the first line of defence against criminal activities,” Senator Sadiq stated. “We must continue to strengthen them with the training, equipment, and moral support they need. Our communities cannot afford to be at the mercy of bandits or any form of insecurity.”
The Senator, who had earlier provided financial and medical assistance to the injured vigilantes and families of the deceased, assured that his office will intensify collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to ensure lasting peace in Kwara North.
Extending Support Through Healthcare
In addition to his security commitments, Senator Sadiq’s media office also announced the facilitation of a two-day free medical outreach for vulnerable patients across Moro Local Government Area from Thursday 14th to Friday 15th August, 2025.
The outreach powered by the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Budo-Egba, in partnership with Gedrite Nigeria Ltd will take place at:
1. Cottage Hospital, Shao
2. Model PHC, Jebba
3. PHC, Bode Saadu
Services will include free consultations, drug distribution, and basic health checkups, as well as treatment for conditions such as malaria, pneumonia, typhoid, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, skin infections, peptic ulcer, and more.
According to the Senator’s office, the programme complements Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s healthcare drive in Kwara State, aiming to “deepen access to healthcare for the vulnerable and restore hope in our communities.”
“Good health should never be a luxury,” Senator Sadiq noted. “While we work to secure our communities, we must also safeguard their well-being. Security and health are inseparable pillars of a thriving society.”
