With the induction of 40 members, the event also witnessed a series of seminar sessions from experts of different professions.

Addressing the press, Registrar IESM, Balogun Olalekan Olusegun, highlighted objectives of professional ergonomist, while disclosing building a future where human-centred design and safety standards define every workplace.

Balogun, alongside Director of the institution, Osarhiemen Iserhienrhien also stressed that the institution was dedicated to advancing the science and practice of ergonomics and workplace safety with mission to foster healthier, safer and more productive work environments through professional education, advocacy, research and strategic partnerships.

In his words: “Our objective is to gain specialised knowledge that improves workplace safety and health. We are also keen at contributing to productivity and employee well-being while we recognise a professional network for career growth. We also derived pleasure influencing organisational policies and design for better human-system interactions.

“Here in Nigeria, people work to make money for themselves. So, we come together as a body to educate people on how to make good use of their work time and by the time they retire, they’ll still be useful to themselves. Research has often told us that a lot of people work and after work, they die without even having enough pension fund to bank on at old age.”
