Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho has successfully completed his medical at Middlesbrough ahead of his imminent unveiling, as reported by Sky Sports journalists Anthony Joseph and Keith Downie.
The Super Eagles forward is set to join the Championship side on loan from Sevilla until the end of the season, with Middlesbrough securing an option to make the move permanent.
This deal marks a significant signing for Michael Carrick’s team as they push for promotion to the Premier League.
Iheanacho, who had been linked with a return to England throughout the transfer window, received permission from Sevilla to travel for his medical after being left out of training on Sunday.
The 28-year-old had also attracted interest from Greek clubs PAOK and Panathinaikos, as well as Italian side Venezia, but chose to prioritize a move back to the UK.
Middlesbrough is reported to cover the majority of Iheanacho’s wages, estimated at around €2 million (N3 billion).
The former Leicester City striker brings valuable experience, having won the FA Cup with the Foxes in 2021.
Currently sitting seventh in the Championship with 44 points from 29 games, Middlesbrough will be hoping Iheanacho’s arrival provides the attacking firepower needed to secure a playoff spot or even challenge for automatic promotion.
An official announcement from the club is expected soon.
