The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Gombe State, beginning with online pre-registration on August 18 and in-person registration across the state on Monday, August 25.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Rifkatu Duku, the exercise is being held simultaneously at INEC offices across all 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the State headquarters in Gombe. The daily registration runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
The electoral body explained that services available during the exercise include new voter registration for citizens aged 18 years and above who have never registered, collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from previous registrations, transfer of PVCs to new voting locations, and replacement of lost or damaged cards.
INEC cautioned that online registration alone does not guarantee eligibility, stressing that applicants must complete the process with biometric capture at the designated centres. “Online registration without completion with biometric capture is as good as non-registration. Thus, hurry to our nearest LGA or the State office to complete your registration,” the statement read.
The commission also noted that the registration services are available online through its official portal, www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, to ease access for eligible voters.
INEC reiterated its commitment to deepening Nigeria’s electoral process, urging citizens of Gombe State to take advantage of the exercise. “Voting starts with registration, so register to vote and be voted for,” it declared.
The Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which runs nationwide, is a key step in ensuring that eligible citizens participate in future elections, with INEC assuring that it remains committed to making every vote count and consolidating the country’s democracy.
