The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed positive on Tuesday as renewed interest in select stocks lifted the All-Share Index by 0.12 per cent to 146,105.89 points, bringing the year-to-date return to 41.90 per cent. Market capitalisation increased by N110 billion to settle at N92.41 trillion.
The session recorded 49 gainers against 29 losers. ABC Transport Plc gained 10.00 per cent closing at N0.45 per share, Prestige Assurance Plc gained 10.00 per cent closing at N0.20 per share, TIP Plc gained 10.00 per cent closing at N1.32 per share, Wapic Insurance Plc gained 10.00 per cent closing at N0.37 per share, while Champion Breweries Plc gained 10.00 per cent closing at N1.58 per share.
On the losers’ chart, Juli Plc declined by 10.00 per cent closing at N9.00 per share, Unilever Nigeria Plc declined by 9.97 per cent closing at N71.10 per share, Custodian Investment Plc declined by 9.55 per cent closing at N37.95 per share, Academy Press Plc declined by 7.78 per cent closing at N8.30 per share, while May & Baker Nigeria Plc declined by 7.69 per cent closing at N18.00 per share.
Sector performance was mixed. The NGX Insurance Index gained 9.12 per cent to close at 1,497.50 points, while the NGX Industrial Goods Index gained 0.86 per cent to close at 5,463.16 points. The NGX Banking Index declined by 0.22 per cent to close at 1,610.42 points, the NGX Consumer Goods Index declined by 0.47 per cent to close at 3,238.74 points, and the NGX Oil and Gas Index declined by 0.19 per cent to close at 2,422.59 points.
The NGX Commodities Index closed flat at 1,070.39 points.
Market activity slowed, with the volume of shares traded falling by 39.63 per cent to 1.28 billion units, while the number of deals dropped by 22.95 per cent to 31,155. However, the value of transactions rose by 25.03 per cent to N24.25 billion, indicating more high-value trades. Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, Dangote Cement Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, Nigerian Breweries Plc, and Access Holdings Plc were the top traded stocks by value.1
