Propaganda against Ojulari plot to derail reforms, endanger Nigeria’s future –CCDI

The Centre for Convention on Democratic Integrity (CCDI) has strongly condemned what it described as a coordinated campaign of “vile propaganda, targeted harassment, and cowardly whispering” against Mr. Bayo Ojulari, the newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, Olufemi Aduwo, President of the non-governmental organisation, said the malicious attacks are being orchestrated by entrenched interests who have long benefitted from the corruption and inefficiencies in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

“It has become evident that certain disgruntled elements, many of whom have long fed fat on systemic rot within the oil and gas sector, are deeply unsettled by Mr. Ojulari’s bold commitment to sanitising the NNPCL. “These unpatriotic actors, desperate to derail the reforms underway, have resorted to malicious insinuations, disinformation, and underhand tactics designed to erode public confidence and sow discord within the Presidency”, the statement read.

Aduwo described Ojulari’s emergence as GCEO not as a product of political maneuvering, but of professional excellence and integrity.

“Let it be stated without equivocation: Mr. Ojulari did not ascend to this office through intrigue or favouritism, but through proven competence, moral clarity and an unwavering record of service,” Aduwo declared.

He further noted that Ojulari’s early steps in office have already indicated a shift towards fiscal responsibility, operational transparency, and the recovery of national assets from oil thieves and entrenched cartels.

“We are aware that these enemies of the nation, threatened by the collapse of their illicit pipelines and privileges, are now attempting to ensnare the security agencies, mislead political actors and poison the public space,” the statement continued. “They are not merely attacking a man, they are attacking Nigeria’s sovereign energy future.”

The group called on President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and other key institutions to protect Ojulari and the reform mandate he represents.

“We call upon His Excellency President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and all patriotic institutions to stand firm. Mr. Ojulari’s success is Nigeria’s success. To betray him is to betray the mandate of reform and national survival. Nigeria shall not be held hostage by saboteurs masquerading as patriots,” Aduwo concluded.

The CCDI reaffirmed its support for reforms in the oil and gas industry and reiterated that attempts to derail the current transformation at the NNPCL must be exposed and resisted at all levels.
