President Bola Tinubu has assured victims of the recent deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State, that the Federal Government will take decisive steps to ensure lasting peace and prevent a recurrence.
The President made a promise on Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Jos held in the aftermath of the Palm Sunday incident in Angwan Rukuba, when 28 people were massacred by unknown gunmen.
Speaking to political figures and impacted citizens, Tinubu conveyed his condolences for the tragedy and stated that although money could not make up for the loss, his administration is still dedicated to bringing security and stability back to the state.
“There’s nothing I can give you whether money in millions but to console you and promise you that this experience will not repeat itself,” he said.
“As government, we will try our best to comfort you and work with you, but the best solution is for Jos to return to the Jos we used to know.”
Tinubu stressed that he and Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, were chosen to bring prosperity and unity rather than sorrow and loss.
“We were elected to bring prosperity, not to console and create widows and widowers, but to bring inclusiveness and share in the hope and aspirations of everyone,” he added.
The President also underscored the need to secure a peaceful future for young people in Plateau State, insisting that his visit was not only to commiserate but to lay the foundation for enduring peace.
“I don’t want to come here just to commiserate and console; I want to be here to establish peace,” he added.
The attack has intensified concerns over insecurity in the region, with growing calls for urgent and sustained measures to curb recurring violence in Plateau State.
