The Kano State House of Assembly has withdrawn its notice of impeachment against the former Deputy Governor of the state, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
The withdrawal on Tuesday followed his decision to voluntarily resign from office a few days ago.
A motion to that effect was moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yangurasa, during a plenary session of the House.
The Majority Leader, while moving the motion, insisted that proceeding with the matter after his resignation would be pointless.
He explained that, in line with Order 3, Rule 6A, he decided to withdraw the motion following the voluntary resignation of the former deputy governor.
Hussaini added, “We have withdrawn all charges against him, and the matter has been laid to rest. We will no longer pursue these offences because our role is limited to removing an official if found guilty. Since he has voluntarily resigned, how can we continue?
“We are not the EFCC or ICPC; our mandate has been fulfilled,” he added.
It could be recalled that the House had, on March 5, 2026, initiated impeachment proceedings against the former deputy governor.
In the notice, Abdulsalam was accused of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.
While reading the petition, the Majority Leader had aligned the impeachment notice with the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
