The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for alleged trafficking in ammunition.
The suspect, who hails from Kankara village in Katsina State, was apprehended with 220 rounds of ammunition concealed inside bags of garri at a major motor park in the metropolis.
Her arrest followed a tip-off to the intelligence service, which led to her apprehension.
The suspect confessed that the ammunition was sent to her by an officer in Lafia, Nasarawa State, adding that the said officer, whom she had never met, usually sends consignments to Unguwa Ukwu Motor Park in different quantities for her to pick up and hand over to persons operating in the forest in Kankara village of Katsina State.
The suspect admitted that she had been involved in the illegal trade for just two months, adding that within this period she had trafficked consignments worth ₦5 million.
The suspect, however, expressed regret over her involvement in the trade.
