Kano govt inaugurates committee to tackle out of school children problem

Kano State Government has inaugurated an 18-member committee to address the crisis of Out-of-School children in the state.

Daily Sun reports that since the inception of the administration several interventions have been made by government, development partners and other civil society organizations to curtail the problem.

Inaugurating the committee on Monday, the State Commissioner of Education, Ali Haruna Makoda disclosed that the initiative was designed to address challenges of children and youth who were not enrolled into school or who dropped out of the formal schooling system.

A statement issued by the Director, Public Enlightenment in the Ministry, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru added that the committee was mandated to ensure increasing access to education by children who had never been enrolled to school, re-enrollment of school dropouts, expanding educational opportunities and improving the quality of education.

The statement added that the committee was tasked to develop foundational skills, life skills, employment opportunities for every child, and address the real causes of out-of-school children by fighting poverty and reducing child labour.

” This committee is assigned to come up with clear process of tackling security concerns and encouragement of community engagement to achieve better education in the state” said the statement.

The committee , headed by the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education Reform, Haladu Muhammad, has members drawn from government agencies, traditional leaders, academia, development partners and civil society organisations.

Makoda, therefore, urged the committee members to work diligently to achieve the desired results.

Responding, the Chairman of the committee Haladu Muhammad represented by the State lead PLANE FCDO, Umar Lawan assured the commissioner of their commitment to justify the confidence reposed in them.
