Kebbi: Ex-PDP guber candidate dumps party

From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

The former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election in Kebbi State, Major General Aminu Bande (retd), has resigned from the party.

He attributed his resignation to a lack of stability within the party.

In a letter to the Ward Chairman of PDP Nasarawa 1, Birnin Kebbi, dated April 5, 2026, Gen. Bande announced his decision to leave the party, effective immediately.

“According to him, “I write to formally tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from today, Sunday, 5th April, 2026,” Gen. Bande stated. “This decision comes following deep consideration, reflection, and engagement with my associates and other stakeholders.”

Bande, who was the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general election, contested against Governor Dr Nasir Idris in an election that was declared inconclusive before Governor Idris defeated him.

“Further decisions on my political endeavours shall be announced soonest,” Gen. Bande said, leaving the door open for his next move.
