An interplay of factors, including long driving ranges, attractive designs, array of features, advanced technology, and competitive pricing, has driven Kia electric vehicles (EVs) to popularity in many parts of the developed world.

The Kia line-up features EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9, all of which have together ammassed tens of awards for Kia in a couple of years.

Though Tesla is still the dominant brand among EVs, Kia is increasingly gaining popularity in certain markets, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, where the brand is registering record sales.

In Nigeria, Dana Motors, the Kia official representative, which sells and assembles, and provides after-sales support for the brand, has commenced the introduction of some of the EVs.

It is thus not surprising that Kia EVs have been winning a fair share of international awards that reflect a global recognition.

The Kia EV6 has been particularly impressive with a total collection of over 30 awards since its launch, followed by EV9 with 10, and EV3 which has won at least six awards in 2025, having been launched only in October, 2024..

With 30 honours, the success of the Kia EV6 has been remarkable, and an acknowledgment of innovation and excellence.

Kia has in a statement explained that with a perfect blend of driving performance, advanced technology, safety, and design, the EV6 reflects its determination to create innovative vehicles that support customers in discovering new places, pursuing new relationships, and experiencing new adventures.

The manufacturer described EV6 as the result of a promise, adding that the competitiveness of the EV6, which had previously won the titles of 2022 European Car of the Year and the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, has once again been reaffirmed.

To Kia’s credit, the EV6 GT version was selected as the winner of the 2023 World Performance Car at the 2023 World Car Awards, where a diverse range of vehicles from around the world are evaluated and honored.

With a combined power output of 430kW (585 PS), enabling a 3.5-second 0-100km/h acceleration time and a top speed of 260 km/h, it also takes only 18 minutes to charge to 80 percent.

Furthermore, EV6 has demonstrated long-range driving capability, covering a maximum of 528 km on a single charge.

The fact that it has received numerous global design awards in various categories, including the infotainment system and design, is a compelling aspect.

“The journey of the EV6 is a continuous series of astonishment, leading our future in a better and more sustainable direction. It’s a story about ongoing inspiration and innovation. The EV6 is set to become a new milestone in the EV era.

With the availability of the Kia EVs in Nigeria through Dana Motors, the hope that the vehicles would soon start winning hearts in the local market  – as they are currently doing in developed countries –  has been enkindled.

The introduction of Kia EVs in Nigeria by Dana Motors is coming at a time the Federal Government is championing a transition from fossil fuels (petrol and diesel) to compressed natural gas (CNG) and electrified vehicles with gradual expansion on support infrastructure (refill stations, mother stations and charging stations).
