Nigeria international Ademola Lookman is facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a calf injury during Atalanta’s training session on Wednesday, as transfer talks with Inter Milan continue to heat up, Bold Sports reports.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, relayed by SOSFanta, Lookman felt discomfort in his calf after training and later experienced pain while striking the ball. The forward is now expected to undergo further medical tests to determine the severity of the issue.
While the injury is not believed to be serious, the 27-year-old has been temporarily pulled from full training, leaving Atalanta without one of their key attacking players for now.
The setback comes at a crucial time, with Inter Milan pushing hard to secure Lookman’s signature ahead of the new Serie A season. Inter have reportedly submitted an opening offer of €40m for the Super Eagles star, who was instrumental in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph in 2024, scoring a historic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
However, Atalanta are holding firm on their €50m valuation and are in no rush to sell, especially as Lookman remains under contract until June 2027.
Reports in Italy suggest that the former Fulham and RB Leipzig winger has already reached an informal agreement with Inter on personal terms. But for the move to materialize, the Nerazzurri will need to increase their offer to meet Atalanta’s asking price.
Lookman enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, finishing the season as one of Atalanta’s top performers.
His form has attracted attention from several European clubs, but Inter appear to be leading the race.
