Several people are feared dead following a devastating accident at Idemili Junction near Oba in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. On Tuesday night, a speeding 40-foot container truck, reportedly suffering from brake failure while descending a slope, lost control and collided with multiple vehicles, including a shuttle bus and several tricycles loading passengers at the junction.
An eyewitness described the chaotic scene: “The trailer lost its brakes while descending, and the driver struggled with the steering but eventually lost control. It crashed into some tricycles and a shuttle bus, trapping people, including bystanders waiting for vehicles.”
In the aftermath, local residents and passersby immediately launched a rescue operation to free those trapped, while emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrived on the scene. Videos circulating on social media captured the distressing images of mangled vehicles and trapped victims as FRSC officials and police coordinated rescue efforts and managed the traffic situation.
When contacted for further details, FRSC spokesperson Margaret Onabe indicated that a detailed report from officers at the scene was still pending, promising to provide updates as soon as possible.
