NAFDAC Seizes 140 Tonnes of Expired Drugs, Uncovers Warehouses in Aba

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered two warehouses filled with expired drugs in Aba, located at No. 269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road). The agency shared the news in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

During the operation, NAFDAC officials discovered that some suspects had managed to remove several cartons of expired drugs that had been relabeled before security reinforcements arrived.

In a related operation in Umumeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma Local Government Area, NAFDAC seized a total of 140 tonnes of expired drugs. This figure does not include additional expired products confiscated from drug shops at the Ariaria International Market.

As part of the crackdown, NAFDAC officials also collected 178 drug samples, which will be sent for laboratory analysis to determine their composition and assess potential health risks.

The agency’s statement emphasized the scale of the operation, detailing the haul of expired drugs and ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and combat the distribution of unsafe medicines.
