The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed outrage over the abduction and murder of two students of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Abah Friday and Okah Eloho.
This is contained in a Friday statement signed by National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Comrade Adeyemi Samson Ajasa.
Friday, 25, and Eloho, 19, reportedly went missing on June 20.
On Wednesday, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, disclosed that Friday’s landlord, Oladele Femi, and two others had been arrested over the murder of the two students.
Reacting, NANS expressed profound sadness over the kidnapping and murder of the victims.
It said, “This barbaric act is not only heartbreaking and disturbing but also a stark reminder of the persistent and unacceptable threat to the lives and safety of young Nigerians striving for education and a better future.”
Condemning the “heinous crime”, the national student body described it as a direct assault on the sanctity of human life and a grave injustice to the aspirations of the Nigerian youth.
NANS said such violence must not be allowed to fester, and perpetrators must face the full wrath of the law.
“We acknowledge the verified reports indicating that the @OndoPoliceNg have swiftly apprehended some key suspects linked to this gruesome act, with efforts ongoing to arrest the remaining culprit.
“NANS commends the Ondo State Police Command for their prompt response thus far and urges them to intensify efforts to ensure every single individual involved in this reprehensible crime is apprehended and brought to justice.
“We will diligently follow the progression of this case until justice is fully served,” the statement reads in part.
The association extended its condolences to the grieving families and loved ones of the departed students.
“We share in your pain and pray that Almighty God grants you the fortitude to bear this terrible, irreparable loss,” it said.
