NCDC condemns Shiroro attacks, sympathises with Niger govt, victims

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Dr. Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, has condemned the recent attacks on Erena and Bagna communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable.

Dr. Tsenyil on Wednesday who spoke on behalf of the Governing Board, management and staff of the Commission, expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the attacks which led to loss of lives, displacement of residents and destruction of property.

He said, “We are deeply saddened and outraged by the recent attacks on Erena and Bagna communities in Shiroro Local Government Area. These heinous acts are barbaric and completely unacceptable.”

The NCDC boss noted that the violence undermines peace and security, warning that it also threatens ongoing efforts aimed at development and stability in the North Central region.

“Such senseless violence not only disrupts the peace of our communities but also threatens the progress we are making towards sustainable development in the region,” he added.
Dr. Tsenyil extended condolences to families of victims and expressed solidarity with those affected by the attacks.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost their loved ones. We also stand in solidarity with all those affected by this tragic incident,” he said.
He further sympathised with the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, as well as the government and people of the state over the development.

“We sympathise with His Excellency, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, the government and the good people of Niger State over this unfortunate incident. The Commission remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at addressing the humanitarian and developmental challenges arising from such crises,” he stated.

The NCDC chief called on security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending those responsible for the attacks and ensuring the protection of lives and property in vulnerable communities.

“We call on security agencies to redouble their efforts in bringing the perpetrators of these attacks to justice and ensuring that communities are adequately protected,” he said.

He also urged stakeholders to work together in promoting peace and unity across the region. “There is a need for all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering peace, unity and resilience among our people,” he added.

Dr. Tsenyil reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission to its mandate of supporting recovery, reconstruction and sustainable development in affected communities across the North Central region.
