The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect and issued a stern warning to the outgoing council members not to bother lobbying him.
“Don’t lobby anyone, don’t lobby me, nobody can lobby me,” the governor said while dissolving his cabinet

The dissolution of the 36-member Executive Council comes exactly two years after it was inaugurated on August 30, 2023.
The governor, who announced the sacking of the commissioners during the weekly State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber, Government House, on Monday, directed all the commissioners to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.
“As you leave here, hand over to permanent secretaries in your offices. All permanent secretaries should take charge of their ministries.”
The governor, however, said that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers in his office were not affected by the dissolution.
He appreciated the commissioners for the services they had rendered towards the development of the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.
He said it was important to review the performances of the commissioners, stressing that “some of you performed superlatively, some dismally. That is not to say you are not good.”
Governor Bago disclosed that in a week or two, he will reconstitute the cabinet, adding, “That is the essence of democracy; some might be commissioners, some special advisers, and some can be permanent secretaries.”
