NYSC Withdraws Corps Members from Benue Community Following Herders’ Attack

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State has withdrawn corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area due to ongoing attacks by suspected armed herders.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Makurdi, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, Yahuza Adamu, confirmed the withdrawal, citing persistent security threats in the area.

Security Concerns and Attacks

The decision comes after reports that over 20 people, including 16 farmers, were killed in a series of attacks. The victims’ bodies were discovered in River Katsina Ala, raising concerns over the escalating violence.

Adamu assured parents and guardians that the NYSC in Benue remains vigilant and committed to corps members’ safety. He emphasized that the agency is actively collaborating with security forces to mitigate risks and ensure the protection of all serving corps members.

NYSC’s Measures and Reassurances

The NYSC clarified that no corps members have been posted to Mbaa since the attacks began, adding that those serving in Jato Acka Turan, a distant location from the affected area, are not under any security threat.

A headcount conducted by the NYSC Kwande Local Government Inspector confirmed that all corps members in the region are safe and accounted for.

The statement read:
“Since the beginning of incessant attacks on Mbaa Community, which shares a boundary with the Republic of Cameroon, NYSC withdrew all Corps Members from the area and has not posted any there till date.”

Adamu urged parents to rely on official NYSC communication channels for accurate updates rather than unverified reports.

NYSC’s Commitment to Corps Members’ Safety

The NYSC reaffirmed its proactive approach to security, ensuring that corps members receive adequate protection at all times.
