Osun 2026: Babayemi urges mass voter registration for APC win

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has called on the people of Osun State to participate massively in the ongoing voter registration exercise initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in preparation for the 2026 governorship election.

In a statement issued by his media office on Sunday, August 17, Babayemi urged APC leaders and members across the state to embark on house-to-house awareness and mobilisation campaigns to galvanise public interest in the registration exercise.

He emphasised the critical role of voter participation, stating that it would enable those seeking a change of administration in Osun to vote for the APC in the 2026 governorship election and support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

“It’s important our people come out in large numbers for this INEC-driven voter card registration exercise for the governorship election slated for next year in the state. The voter’s card is the only allowed tool that can be used to elect a new governor as from next year,” he stressed.

Babayemi urged residents to seize the opportunity to register, update their voter data, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He also called on parents to ensure that their children and wards who have attained the mandatory voting age of 18 years register to vote in both the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 presidential election.

“Interestingly, this period offered by INEC equally provides ample opportunity to first-time registrants, those who lost or have damaged PVCs, and/or those who have relocated or are planning to do so. This is what can seamlessly guarantee the fulfilment of the desire of our people in their quest for a new government in Osun and the continuation of the second term of our President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. There is no shortcut to this except through the INEC-laid-down routes,” he asserted.

Babayemi commended INEC for its efforts in deepening Nigeria’s democratic traditions through established norms and urged the commission to ensure that all eligible adults are captured in the registration exercise.
