A landlord in Oriyangi area of Ibadan, Oyo State is currently cooling off in detention after his tenant identified as Olayeni died during a scuffle that resulted from a disagreement over payment of rent.
In a Sunday post on X, the Oyo State Police Command spokesman, Adewale Osifeso disclosed that the incident occurred on Wednesday, September 3.

The landlord’s associate allegedly struck the tenant during the scuffle, which led to his death.
According to the police, emergency responders quickly mobilised to the scene but Olayeni was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The landlord and his associate were promptly arrested.
The command said, “On September 3, 2025, a tragic event in Ibadan’s Oriyangi area resulted in a tenant’s death after a dispute with his landlord over rent payments.
“During the altercation, the landlord’s associate allegedly struck the tenant, OlaYeni, leading to his collapse. Emergency responders arrived promptly but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“The suspects have been arrested, and a thorough investigation is underway. The Oyo State Police Command expresses condolences to the victim’s family and assures that justice will be served.”
