Abia State Police Command said it has rescued 18 stolen children and arrested 10 persons suspected to be involved in the child theft.

The command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, in a statement, said on September 27, at about 09:40a.m, a complaint was received at Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters, that a young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, came to Aba with her two children – male and female.

She stated that the woman was lured to Aba by a young man under the guise of marriage. She added that on arrival in Aba, the man asked her to get food for herself and the children while he stayed with the children.

However, on her return, she did not see the man and her children, and all efforts to reach him proved abortive.

The police launched a manhunt for the man and it yielded off on October 8, when officers of the command, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a residence where stolen children were suspected to be kept.
