Sevilla coach García Pimienta praised Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke after his match-winning performance in their 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday. Ejuke scored the only goal right after halftime, securing Sevilla’s ninth win of the season.
This was Ejuke’s first start since his injury in January. He made the most of his chance by scoring a beautiful curler. Coach Pimienta noted that Ejuke was in great form before his injury. He also mentioned that recovering from a three-month layoff makes his comeback even more impressive.
Sevilla had another option in January. They signed Swiss player Ruben Vargas. However, Vargas was sidelined by a hip problem. This opened the door for Ejuke to shine against Real Sociedad.
Sevilla are now unbeaten in five consecutive away La Liga games. They currently sit 10th in the league with 36 points after 27 games. They will host Athletic Bilbao next Sunday. Ejuke also hopes to join Nigeria’s camp for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers if he makes the final squad.
