President Bola Tinubu has celebrated former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd), on his 84th birthday, highlighting the profound impact his administration had on Nigeria’s development, particularly in infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Babangida’s leadership and transformative role in steering the country during his eight-year tenure from 1985 to 1993.
Babangida’s military administration will be remembered for its massive investment in infrastructure, such as the Third Mainland Bridge, and the reforms that liberalised the Nigerian economy, the President noted.
President Tinubu lauded Babangida for his distinguished military career and for founding key institutions, including the State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
President Tinubu also praised Babangida’s role in creating new states and relocating the nation’s capital from Lagos to Abuja, marking him as a pivotal architect in the evolution of modern Nigeria.
