The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027, pointing to ongoing infrastructure projects as key justification.
Umahi spoke while opening a 15-kilometre section of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, noting that the upgrade has eased traffic and reduced travel time along the busy South-East corridor.
He said the road rehabilitation has addressed years of neglect and hardship faced by commuters, especially in the region.
The minister urged South-East governors and residents to support the President’s re-election bid to ensure continuity and completion of ongoing projects.
According to him, the Federal Government restructured the contract and introduced reinforced concrete on critical sections, with a 72-kilometre stretch designed to last between 50 and 100 years.
Umahi disclosed that the project cost has risen to over ₦350 billion, adding that other sections are at different stages of completion and will follow uniform standards.
He expressed optimism that the full Enugu–Onitsha Expressway will be completed by 2026, describing it as a major boost for economic activity, safety, and regional connectivity.
