From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Brasília, Brazil

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu arrived at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília to commence his official state visit to Brazil. He was received at the Presidential Palace in the capital at 10:20 AM local time by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, with a full military parade, underscoring the significance of the visit and the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The ceremony at the Palácio do Planalto featured formal state protocols, including military honours and the playing of national anthems, symbolising Brazil’s commitment to hosting its African guest with full honours.

Both presidents are already holding bilateral talks focusing on strengthening cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, and cultural exchange, as well as closer collaboration in international forums.

This is President Tinubu’s third trip to the South American powerhouse within a year but his first state visit, and it carries broader implications for both nations’ relations.
