From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Enugu
A passionate appeal has been made to the authorities at the Enugu State Police Command, to expedite action in arresting and prosecuting the killers of 63-year-old ex-soldier, Christopher Ogbodo.
Ogbodo who hailed from Ikem in Isi-Uzo Local Government area of the state, was murdered in cold blood at his place of work in Igboke Nike ,along Nsukka-Ugwogo Nike road, on Tuesday July 1, 2025, by unknown persons.
Making the call yesterday in Enugu, amidst tears and sobbing, widow of the deceased ex-soldier, Ngozi Ogbodo expressed sadness that more than one month after the gruesome murder of her husband, nothing tangible had been done to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime
Mrs. Ogbodo told newsmen that her late husband was murdered in cold blood and wondered why the police were yet to unravel the mystery behind the murder of her husband who was also the breadwinner of the family.
Narrating her story, she disclosed that her husband was a security guard at a petroleum station under construction, and that he spoke with her on phone the same day he was murdered only to be told few hours later that he was killed by unknown persons.
She expressed serious surprise that the owner of the station has not showed up to identify with her family, while the station manger ,who according her was the only person that should provide information about what happened to her husband was still freely roaming the streets without police arrest.
The devastated woman noted that though she does not want to accuse the police of any foul play in the investigation, “they (police) should arrest both the owner of the station under construction and the station manager to give detailed information about the murder of my husband.
“I’m not happy over the delay in investigation of the murder of my husband. The day he was murdered police from Unity Police Station Ibeagwa Nike, Enugu came later at night and took his corpse to morgue from there the case was transfered to State Criminal Investigation (SCID) homicide section for further investigation. I learnt that a labourer who was working at the station has been arrested.
“The big question is, why is it that since the day my husband was killed, the station manger has not been arrested? Why is it that the owner of the station under construction has not surfaced to meet with the family or be arrested by the police? Is anything cooking that we don’t know about my husband’s death which they are hiding from us?
“I want the police to do their discreet investigation about the murder of my husband. They should arrest everybody that were around the place both the station manager and the unknown owner of the station. It is human life that we are talking about and not animals, even domestic animals have owners
“I’m embittered that since July 1, 2025, when my husband was murdered in cold blood, the main suspects are walking around freely as if nothing happened. The police should do their job and bring those involved in the death of my husband to justice, no matter whose ox is gored.”
Also, she appealed to the police to release the body of her husband for burial, while investigation continues to unravelled the circumstances surrounding the killing of the husband and subsequent prosecution of the suspects.
Ebugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),SP Daniel Ndukwe, said he needed to verify the matter as he was not briefed about the incident.
