World Igbo National Union slams Soludo over US statement

From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The World Igbo National Union (WINU), an Igbo organization dedicated to the peace, progress, welfare, and development of Igbo land, has expressed disappointment over the statement credited to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo during his recent visit to Maryland, USA.

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Ifeanyi Uwakwa, WINU said it was surprising that the Anambra State governor could say that 99.9 percent of armed criminals illegally occupying South East forests are Igbo people.

The statement said it was unfortunate that Gov Soludo should make such a statement without substantiating it.

WINU noted that foreign and local reports showed that the Fulani herdsmen wielding sophisticated guns were the ones occupying South East farmlands and forests and killing members of their families.

“We implore Governor Soludo to follow the lead of his counterpart in Abia State and adopt a zero-tolerance policy against the activities of armed groups that endanger our communities.

“The people of Anambra State have already expressed unequivocally their rejection of any proposals for RUGA settlements.”

While urging Governor Soludo to align himself with the aspirations of the Igbo people, WINU called for a unity of purpose to protect Igbo land.
