Zuru killings: Malami decries loss of ‘nearly 200 innocent lives’ in Kebbi

Former Attorney-General of the Federation & Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has condemned recent attacks in Tadurga Ward of Zuru Local Government Area, Kebbi State, which he said claimed nearly 200 innocent lives.

This is contained in a Wednesday statement signed by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka.

Daily Sun learnt that bandits numbering over 50 stormed the community on Monday night and wreaked havoc as residents were sleeping.

In his statement, Malami described the attack as grievous and barbaric.

The ex-AGF said, “It is with a deeply saddened heart that we address the grievous and barbaric attack that has befallen our beloved people in Tadurga Ward of Zuru Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

“The tragic loss of nearly 200 innocent lives is a painful scar on our collective conscience and a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive security and development across our communities.”

Malami extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, while praying for the peaceful repose of the departed souls. .

He said, “This attack is not just a tragedy for Zuru or Kebbi State; it is a national catastrophe that demands swift and decisive action.

“Zuru and its surrounding local governments—Dankowasagu, Fakai, Sakaba, and Zuru — are in dire need of attention.

“It is unacceptable that in 2025, these regions still suffer from lack of motorable roads, inadequate hospitals, poorly equipped schools, and a fragile security structure.

“We condemn this act of terror in the strongest terms and call on both the Kebbi State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately ramp up efforts to defend and protect our people.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain emphasised that the primary responsibility of government is the security and welfare of its citizens, saying that duty must not be neglected.

He also urged the people of Kebbi State, especially the sons and daughters of Zuru, to remain united, prayerful, and vocal in demanding justice and protection.

“Our voices must not be silenced. Let us all dedicate the next 24 hours to raising awareness and drawing attention to the plight of our people. Zuru is bleeding, and it must not be ignored,” he stressed.
