Akwa Ibom govt denies conditional cash grant scheme

By John Ogunsemore

The Akwa Ibom State Government has denied operating a conditional cash grant scheme asking the public to submit personal information to a third party website.

This is contained in a Tuesday statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.

Umanah warned the public against clicking on the link or providing personal information.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Akwa Ibom State Government has been drawn to a fraudulent message directing people to a scam website online with the caption: ‘AKWA IBOM CONDITIONAL CASH GRANT’ – where the image of the Hon Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, and insignia of government are fraudulently used.

“The message, which includes a fraudulent link (grant.akwaibom.claim-itz.online), is false, misleading, and a scam.

“The general public is hereby advised to disregard this message and refrain from clicking on the link or providing any personal information.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government does not operate any cash grant programme through unofficial websites or third-party links.”

The commissioner explained that all official programmes and public welfare initiatives of the state government are announced through verified government channels, including the official website or portal.
