From Jude Owuamanam, Jos
Senator representing Plateau Central, Diket Plang, has described the March 29 attack on Angwan Rukuba, in which over 28 persons were killed, as an act of terrorism.
He said that the spate of attacks in Plateau state and beyond had grown to a level that everybody is tired.
Speaking to newsmen in his Jos country home on Friday, Plang, also decried the ambush of military personnel at Kanam, describing it as very strange
He said that for a very long Jos metropolis had been relatively quiet with pockets of crisis shifting to the hinterland and expressed regrets at the recent upsurge in killings in the Jos city centre
“The the rural areas became very very unsafe and so many people could not go to the rural areas. You can’t go home, you can’t sleep at home. Kidnapping and this marauding acts. But again for it to happen on a Sunday in Angwan Rukuba, particularly that spot where on weekends people gather around to discuss and for somebody to take an opportunity to spread bullets is pure acts of terrorism.
“The one in Kanam that had to do with an ambush of military personnel is strange, even leading to the death of a captain, the loss of life of a captain and several military and civilian personnel.
“It’s pathetic. It is fearful, it reduces our hope, and very unfortunate when it is affecting commanding officers.
Plang said that the killing of upcoming junior officers present a hopeless situation.
He asked Nigerians to appreciate the roles of the military because they are not safe and they are sacrificing.
“For those who lost their lives, particularly the military personnel and also the civilians, may God Almighty grant them rest and may God grant us the fortitude and the ability to show love and stand in for them. May their names be immortalized in a very special way.
“And for the families that lost their loved ones in protecting Nigerians, may God grant them the opportunity to bear such an irreparable loss.’
He appreciated the timely visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially his promise to deploy closed circuit cameras to all nook and crannies of the state.
Also the Plateau State Advisory Council On Interreligious Harmony has condemned the attack on Angwan Rukuba community in which over 28 persons were killed as nothing short of acts of terrorism.
In a statement signed by the Chairman , Rev. Pandang Yamsat and Co-Chairman, HRH Alh. Muhammad Sambo-Haruna, described this acts as not only barbaric but one that goes against the doctrines and teachings of Christianity and Islam.
In the statement entitled, ‘Plateau State Advisory Council l Interreligious Harmony frowns at Angwan Rukuba attack, says it is act of terrorism,’ the council said, “This heinous act of inhumanity especially coming at a time that Christians were observing a Holy Week is disturbing and unacceptable and therefore should be condemned by all right thinking members of the society.Council prays for the peaceful repose of the lives of those who died in the unfortunate attack and commiserates with families that are grieving the loss of loved ones, the government and people of Plateau State.
“This latest act of violence unleashed on innocent citizens has nothing to do with religion but it is purely an act of terrorism and an attempt by some questionable elements whose grand design is to pitch both Christians and Muslims against one another in their evil desire to set Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria on a precipice.
“To those who sustained various degrees of injuries, the council prayed God to quicken the healing he has started in their lives.”
