Electoral reform: Jonathan, Osinbajo, Obi, others set for National Summit in Abuja

Prominent Nigerians including former President Good Luck Jonathan, former Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo, the 2,023 Presidential candidate for the Labour party Mr. Peter Obi, Dr Oby Ezekwesili Dr. Usman Bugaje, Professor Pat Utomi, and others, will on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in Abuja, kickstart national political summit, which will birth a new national movement for electoral reforms for credible elections in 2027.

In a statement issued by Mallam Turaki Hamisu, the spokesperson for the conveners, the emergent movement will have a crucial goal to see that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) justifies the investment made by the country for elections.

The group stated, “It is the duty of INEC to defend its tasks and show how it had acted within the ambit of the law setting it up, and not for contestants to explain and provide evidence for INEC’s commission and omissions.

The statement further indicated that the previous national colloquium, convened in response to the urgent need for electoral reforms however, was adjourned for a major multi-stakeholder national political summit scheduled to give room for broader participation of Nigerians.

Expectedly, the event will bring together over 500 participants and very high-profile political leaders. These include Amb Nkoyo Toyo, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, Prince Adewole Adebayo, Esq, and Dr Gbenga Olawepo, who were both represented, among other Leaders of the labour movement and the organized civil society present at the new intervention for credible elections in 2027 facilitated by National Consultative Front, NCFront, and in Partnership with the National Electoral Reforms Coalition, NERCO, and Partners for Electoral Reforms.
