Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, were among the major highlights of the 11th edition of the City People Real Estate Awards, as both leaders received high-profile recognition for their roles in advancing real estate development in the state.
At the event recently at the Etal Events Centre in Oregun, Lagos, Governor Makinde was honoured as the Most Real Estate Friendly Governor of the Year, a recognition widely seen as an endorsement of his administration’s policies that have attracted investment and boosted housing development across Oyo State.
The award was received on his behalf by the Chairman of Afia Group, Abduljelyl Adekunle Karheem, whose company, Afia Homes and Properties, also emerged as the Biggest Indigenous Real Estate Developer of the Year 2026.
Beyond the governor’s recognition, the Olubadan, Oba Ladoja, was specially celebrated for his influence in shaping the trajectory of indigenous real estate investment in Ibadan. Speaking at the ceremony, Adanla dedicated his company’s award to the monarch, crediting him with inspiring the vision behind Afia Homes.
According to him, the Olubadan played a foundational role in the company’s establishment by encouraging his return from London to invest in Ibadan nearly eight years ago, a move that has since contributed to the expansion of quality housing in the city.
Organised by City People Magazine, the annual awards celebrate excellence and innovation in Nigeria’s property sector, bringing together developers, financiers, and policymakers.
Afia Homes and Properties, known for projects such as Afia Court, Afia Apartment, and The Crest by Afia, has continued to expand its footprint, supported by strategic partnerships, including collaboration with Stanbic IBTC Bank to ease homeownership through flexible financing.
The ceremony also attracted top dignitaries, including the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, alongside business leaders and real estate stakeholders from across the country.
