Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that he will unveil his preferred successor in January 2026, signaling the beginning of political activities ahead of the next governorship election.
Makinde made the statement on Monday during the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture held at the Government House Arcade in Ibadan. The event featured a lecture titled Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspective, delivered by the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomoland, Yunus Teliat.
Speaking in Yoruba, the governor expressed gratitude to Muslim leaders for their support and urged continued prayers for his administration. He also humorously addressed popular socialite Abbas Oloko, asking him not to remove his billboard at Isale Alfa.
“I’m not yet a lame duck. Please leave my billboard at Isale Alfa,” Makinde said. “In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there.”
He further urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to foster peace and unity across religious lines, emphasizing the need for harmony in society.
