Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has celebrated President Julius Maada Bio’s election as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, describing it as a “historic milestone” not just for his country but also for regional solidarity.
In his remarks after the announcementbof Bio as Chairman, Jalloh said: “I am extremely proud not only as the Vice President but also as a citizen of Sierra Leone to witness President Julius Maada Bio triumphantly flying our flag at the highest regional platform.”
In a message directed to regional stakeholders, including Nigeria, whose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the outgoing Chairman, Dr. Jalloh acknowledged the importance of continuity in ECOWAS leadership.
“President Bio’s commitment to using ECOWAS as a platform for strategic regional collaboration and stronger economic cooperation speaks to the urgency of collective solutions in these challenging times,” he noted.
He stated that he was optimistic that other heads of state and government across the region would rally behind President Bio.
Some observers have said that the new ECOWAS leadership by Sierra Leone also presents a major opportunity for Vice President Jalloh, who is widely expected to succeed President Bio after Sierra Leone’s 2028 elections.
“With his deep roots in regional diplomacy, experience across the Sahel, and fluency in both English and French, Jalloh is well placed to amplify Sierra Leone’s role in shaping West Africa’s future. His involvement in the President’s ECOWAS agenda will not only reinforce his credentials but also position him as a bridge-builder and statesman across the region,” they said.
