President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Professor Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final term of five years, the State House said in a press release on Wednesday.

Bugaje, who was first appointed Executive Secretary of NBTE on March 14, 2021, will continue to lead the agency’s efforts to modernise and strengthen Nigeria’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sub-sector.

According to the release by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s decision followed a careful review of Bugaje’s performance, leadership record and the “significant transformation” seen in the TVET system under his watch.

The statement also highlighted some of NBTE’s achievements in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education, including the strategic repositioning and strengthening of Nigeria’s TVET ecosystem, comprehensive curriculum modernisation, and the development or review of 100 national curricula to align with global skills demands.

The President urged Bugaje to use his second term to “consolidate ongoing reforms and complete the critical initiatives already underway”.
