The Nigerian Navy said its operatives have rescued a kidnapped victim, identified as Benedict Eze, in the Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, following sustained security operations by personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny.
Mr Eze was said to have been abducted on March 23 at Aganya Community but was later found at Coconut Jetty after being abandoned by his captors around the Opuoma waterside. His rescue followed intensified operational pressure mounted by naval personnel through intelligence-led patrols, deployment of technological surveillance, and coordinated actions across land and creeks to block possible escape routes.
A statement by the spokesman of the force, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the sustained efforts by operatives of the Nigerian Navy forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim, leading to his safe recovery. The statement said Mr Eze was immediately evacuated to a Naval Base medical facility for evaluation and debriefing before being reunited with his family.
The Navy noted that the successful operation underscores the effectiveness of joint maritime and land-based security efforts in collaboration with other security agencies. These operations are aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement within the Bonny–Port Harcourt waterways and adjoining creeks.
The development, the statement said, is also in line with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to intensify the fight against criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining proactive patrols and intelligence-driven operations to safeguard lives and property while ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities are brought to justice.
